Page 1
This guide will start with a near stock AX-10

Disconnect the battery and wiring to the motor.

Using an Allen wrench unscrew and remove the front and rear yokes.

Pull the drive shafts apart and remove the 4 lower link/skid plate screws.

Remove the skid plate and remove the four transmission screws.

Remove spur gear nut and spur gear.

Remove the three screws holding on the motor plate then set the motor plate, standoffs and motor aside. Remove the nut and bolt holding the case together.

Separate the transmission case halves and remove the large gear with out drives attached, then remove the three screws holding the out drive halves to the gear.

Remove the plastic spacer from the out drive and set it aside. This will not be used during reassembly.

Reassemble the spool using the new VF rear out drive and the new front out drive. Make sure the out drive with the brass pin is on the opposite side from where the spur gear would normally be as shown in the picture. Put both halves of the transmission back together paying close attention that all the bearings are in the proper position.

At this point is very important that you check to the best of your ability that the brass pin on the out drive is centered and square. This may be accomplished by pressing upward on the opposite side of the out drive while carefully spinning it. The brass pin should have minimal if any wobble from side to side. If a noticeable amount of wobble is detected remove the transmission half and check that the bolts in the out drive are tight, and that no dirt or debris present between the out drive and the plastic gear. Wobble on the brass pin may cause the unit to bind.
